Roper Gulf Regional Council is proud to announce the official opening of the new Weemol Undercover Basketball Court on Monday, 7 September 2026.
Fully funded by Council and constructed by SLS Builders, the brand-new facility provides a safe, shaded and welcoming space for sport, recreation and community activities.
The project was a Council initiative driven by Nyirranggulung Ward representatives Deputy Mayor Helen Lee, Councillor John Dalywater, Councillor Preston Lee and former Councillor Selina Ashley, with the support of Mayor Tony Jack.
Mayor Tony Jack said the new facility represents an important investment in the health and wellbeing of the Weemol and Bulman community.
“This new undercover court will provide more opportunities for children, young people and families to be active, play sport and spend time together,” Mayor Jack said.
“It is a valuable community facility that will support recreation, connection and community activities for many years to come.”
The celebrations will begin with a basketball clinic led by former Australian Opal and WNBL player Deanna Black from 9.30 am.
Formal proceedings, including the ribbon-cutting ceremony, will commence at 12.30 pm, followed by a community BBQ co-hosted by Council and SLS Builders.
All members of the community are kindly invited to attend and celebrate the opening of this important new facility.
