Councillor Melissa Andrews-Wurramarrba Resigns from Council

Councillor Melissa Andrews-Wurramarrba of the Yugul Mangi Ward has formally resigned from her Office of Councillor on the Roper Gulf Regional Council and Appointments as a Member of the Ngukurr and Urapunga Local Authority.

Councillor Andrews-Wurramarrba officially notified the Acting Chief Executive Officer of her decision in writing on 24 February 2026 with the resignation effective immediately.

Councillor Andrews-Wurramarrba became a Councillor on the Roper Gulf Regional Council in December 2024, as well as serving as a Local Authority Member of Urapunga and Ngukurr from December 2023. She has been a strong ambassador for the Yugul Mangi Ward.

Councillor Andrews-Wurramarrba did not make the decision to resign lightly and considered serving on the Council “both an honour and a privilege”.

“I look forward to seeing the Council continue to achieve great outcomes for our community,” Ms Andrews-Wurramarrba said.

Mayor Tony Jack thanked Councillor Andrews-Wurramarrba for her valuable contributions to the Council, to the people of the Yugul Mangi Ward, and to the whole of the Roper Gulf region.

“I thank Councillor Andrews-Wurramarrba for her service and wish her all the best in her future endeavours,” Mayor Jack said.

Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Cindy Haddow also commended Councillor Andrews-Wurramarrba’s service to Yugul Mangi Ward and the Council.

“I thank Councillor Andrews-Wurramarrba for her service to Council. She has been a strong advocate for the community, and I wish her the best for the future,” Mrs Haddow said.

A By-Election will be held to fill the vacancy arising from Councillor Andrews-Wurramarrba’s resignation. Further information will be provided soon.
